Turn Your Dreams Into Reality Part 1 - The First Step
By James Emery Vigh of profbruno.com
Everyone has dreams about what they would like to do with their lives. No matter how young or how old we are, we dream about the "if only (fill in the blanks)". Most us us however either never get past this stage, or we quit after a half-hearted try. It's important that we have these dreams. It's these dreams to a large extent that keep us truly alive. Do we dream of things attainable or do we dream of things not even remotely possible? The answer is yes to both. What is unattainable depends on several factors: 1. Age - At 50 it is unlikely in the extreme that you can be an NBA star. At age 10, anything is still possible if you are healthy. 2. Talent - If you can't draw your way out of a paper bag and have no concept of shapes, it will be very hard for you to be a graphic artist, illustrator, or animator. If you do have these skills, they can be developed. This is, I believe, the main factor. 3. Health - This may be only a temporary setback. But... If you have chronic breathing problems it is unlikely that you will be able to run marathons. 4. The "Silly Factor" - If you are an average Joe, go ahead and dream about getting a date with your favorite Hollywood film starlet. Sorry, it ain't gonna happen. Many of us, sadly, never get past this "dreaming" stage. What we all need to remember is that all successful people started out with an attainable "dream". What they did to make themselves successful is to ACT on that dream. That is the first step - to make that conscious decision to ACT. A dream is a dream, but acting on a dream leads to goal setting. Goal setting leads to a plan of action. A plan of action leads to actual action. This action sets in motion a series of events and moments of decision. These moments of decision lead to "learning experiences". These learning experiences, if we are able to learn the lessons, give the opportunity to turn a dream into something tangible that can be seen and felt. Now we have a chance to turn what started out as a dream into reality. |
