Making 8s on a Par 3 Golf Hole
By James Emery Vigh of profbruno.com
I watched the final round of the PGA last weekend and was amused by the fact that 2 seasoned pro golfers made "8" on one of the par 3s - though I'm sure that it wasn't particularly amusing to them. It reminds me of a time years ago when I was playing a short par 4 on the 18th hole at a local course. The hole featured a narrow lake running from the front of the tee to almost the front of the green. There was a fairway of sorts on the left - more like a landing area for those who would choose to lay up. Now, I am NOT a good golfer - I suck actually, but I elected to go for the green on this hole. The results, of course, are predictable. Yep, my first ball went into the water off the tee. I elected not to go to a drop area and tried again from the tee. Into the water it went. I repeated this process EIGHT times before I finally got a ball to land just short of the green to the left. I then pitched over the green into the parking lot, finally got the stupid ball onto the green and then 3-putted. This of course provided much entertainment to my playing partners, but nothing for my score. Nothing good, that is. |

Here's the hole...
