James Emery Vigh 's profile

I am an author and independent film producer and director with a passion for teaching kids music. I have been a professional guitarist for over 40 years, and have been a guitar instructor off and on during that period. My current project is "Professor Bruno Noteworthy's Guitar Course for Kids (and other humans)". The teaching concept features an animated character (Professor Bruno) interacting with a "live" human. After a second volume for the guitar, the plan is to create volumes for the keyboard, drums, and bass guitar - then perhaps even classical instruments such as the violin. The whole idea is to get kids interested in making music - and to have fun doing it.

Hi James,

Quick note to say thanks for the follow! Qondio is one of those things that I joined then kind of forgot about... looks like it has come a long way since I last was here.

I'm off now to visit your websites. Very cool concept you have for teaching music!

Good morning, James.
We've had to take on a physical project to earn some money. Our website is growing, but we need to keep ahead of the demands of retirement fixed income. We should be able to complete this project in another 30 days, if we don't take any day's off.
I miss all of the happenings at Qondio, can't wait to get back.
Thanks for your concerns.
Best to you.
Frederick

Hi James (or is it Jim),
I joined Qondio just out of curiosity, but now I'm realizing, it really can be a good thing for networking and finding interesting people. You have an interesting profile and seem like someone I'd enjoy reading about. Ok, Talk to you later.

My seven year old daughter started guitar lessons a few months ago, so I enjoy reading your intel!

Robin Jun 17, 2010 01:17

James, I have always wanted to learn the guitar and even tried once. A couple of my brothers play the guitar but I just couldn't toughen my fingertips and it hurt awfully!!!! I play piano, accordian, drums, flute and the .. spoons (lol) I guess I'll just have to settle for that. Your intels should prove very interesting to those who play the guitar or are learning to play.
All the best,
Laraine

Laraine Jun 12, 2010 07:40

Hey James. I replied to your comment on my Intel. Hope it answers your question. If not ... ask away!

Hi James, I appreciate the follow. I'm going to check out your site. My youngest would like to play guitar. She following her older brother who learned to play after he graduated from high school. He absolutely loves it. Congratulations for helping our kids be musical!

I'm impressed by your project. Good luck. As one who has "worked at" playing the guitar for 20 years (I play long enough to develop calluses, stop playing, play long enough to develop calluses, stop playing. You get the picture), I think it's great what you're offering to kids. I can "feel" the excitement in your writing.

I'm a guitarist, too, James. Love your approach to teaching kids music!

My best wishes to you for much success and continued happiness in your craft.

I am looking forward to animated lessons via Professor Bruno . My guitar has been collecting dust for 17 years In high school, I played Clarinet in the marching band, because it was the closet I could successfully get to trumpet tones; also played AltoSax and/or Basoon (dependng on the concert season music).

My inspiration to play the guitar is to join a sibling, who also played AltoSax in high school and have been working on self-tutoring guitar lessons (intermittently ) for the past four years.

JazLive Mar 29, 2010 21:21

hi, sadly i don't play - well not very good that is, i did try for a few years but i guess i was not made to be a guitarist. I do love the sound and even the look of the guitar and i suppose because of the interest is why i started a website, my first one i think that was. i love music and collect vinyl records, i enjoy most kinds of music but stick to collecting 50's 60's Rock n Roll/Doo Wop EP's and Punk.

all the best

Hi James,

I've been encouraged by a number of people to re-look at Qondio and have just read your helpful comments to Bill about using SnagIt, and decided to follow you. I've been using SnagIt too and find it such a handy tool for capturing images.

I'm also interested in making 'creative' videos from stills of my art work and have been experimenting with Animoto lately. Animoto are always on the look out for new 'creative commons' music and perhaps you or your 'budding musicians' may be interested in doing this.

Also if any of your 'budding musicians' wanted to then make their own videos they could use Animoto.

Jufi Mar 4, 2010 14:20

James,
A quick question --
Do you know if after publishing a intel on Qondio, can I also put the post written entirely by me on my own blog? Let me know. I search everywhere on this site, but can't seem to find the answer.

Thanks.

Jufi Mar 4, 2010 09:39

Hi James,
Thanks for assisting me with the website. I finally found the trouble source and it has been re-solved. Yeah! Both of my sites are now indexed. Thanks.

Jufi Feb 28, 2010 20:46

I am very impressed with your writing, but even more impressed with how much information you pack into each intel. Your combined intels on the Alamo will make a great book one day. Keep up the good work, I am a big fan.

Hello. I just sign up for an account on Qondio and was wondering if you could help me. Where can I put the code to have my website be authorize. I've try put it on the widget, in the post on the first page, in the new pages, etc.

BTW, I am using wordpress. Thanks in advance.

**Your site is very informative.

Thank you, James, for your compliments. God bless you.

It's almost comical - I was also told the gall bladder was just about affecting my liver. My cholesterol levels had mysteriously zoomed up one month before the surgery (before symptoms) and after surgery my cholesterol dropped 100 pts to normal in a matter of 3 weeks. Proof that my liver was sick.

I'm glad we both made it out okay!

Look forward to reading your intel - thanks for the follow!

Purple Pen Feb 19, 2010 15:04

Hello Jim, thanks for the follow hope I can keep you interested in good health, as you only get the one go at it. Can't part exchange it! Would like to have known about your teaching guitar a few years ago when my grandson started to learn, I'm sure your method would've helped him.

I really like your intel. Very good stuff, brings back memories and makes me miss the stage, while taking me to it as I read. Thanks! :)

Sara Valor Feb 1, 2010 05:54

Hi James!

A penny whistle is also called a tin whistle or an Irish whistle. It's a traditional Irish instrument, probably the most common wind instrument used in Irish music.

They look similar to recorders, but thinner and simpler. Whistles in the key of D are the most commonly used. Very inexpensive to buy, and since they have a mouthpiece you don't have to learn to hold your mouth just right like you do with a flute, so they are great for beginners (similar to a recorder).

Lots of different makes and models, but this is one of the most popular brands, to give you an idea what they look like: http://bit.ly/c7pR47

They are really fun and easy to get started with.

There's a guy on youtube who has a series of videos teaching you how to play: http://bit.ly/aEm8qK He's also got some where he jams with an Irish band - check it out to see what the instrument is really capable of.

But there are lots of fingering charts and music (Irish music of course ) on the web as well.

Donna Miller Feb 1, 2010 03:05

James,
HarryTurtle.com is my new online financial education and mentoring program. I came up with the name based on the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. And, I'm making it fun for both types of people, the analytical, meticulous types and the fast paced, sales types. Both types need to gain some attributes of the other in order to find true and balanced success. Soooooooo, that is what I teach. HarryTurtle, fun name, huh?

Oh and thanks for the follow,

Reg Whelan Jan 29, 2010 17:23

Hey James, thanks for following me. I'm following you back. You have some interesting looking intel, and your music projects sound great!

I taught myself guitar and several other instruments when I was young, I think it's a great thing for every kid to learn. I have recently picked up the penny whistle again, and that foundation of having learned to read music through piano lessons is coming back quite quickly. Like riding a bike! I'm so grateful that I had that experience as a kid, it's given me the confidence to pick up an instrument as an adult and get back into making some music!

I love it that teaching kids music is your passion! It's so worthwhile.
